WEEFY: He said I’m his girl, but he does not reply to my text.
JC PERCIVAL: And that’s the theme of this episode. Would you read us the letter, Weefy?
WEEFY: Certainly, JC, but first. But first, we’d like to welcome you on our very first episode of Heart to Heart with Weefy and JC Percival. And now, to you, JC.
JC PERCIVAL: That’s right, Weefy. If you’re watching and could use a little guidance in matters of the heart, you can write to Weefy, care of the Broken Heart Junction, by following the link below.
WEEFY: And to make sure your letter stays anonymous, please sign with a pseudonym.
JC PERCIVAL: So Weefy, would you read us that letter?
WEEFY: Certainly, JC. This is so sad. It breaks my heart. Dear Weefy, I met this boy two months ago. He says we’re going steady, but he barely answers my text anymore. And when he does, all he sends back is a K. My girlfriends all say he stopped caring and that I should move on. But I like him a lot. I think I love him. He’s my first boyfriend and I don’t want to lose him. Signed. Desperate. What would you do if that happened to you, JC?
JC PERCIVAL: What would I do? Well, what I’d like to know first is… is what’s a K? What does it mean? Do you know, Weefy? Does anybody know what a K is?
VOICE OFF-SCREEN: It means OK.
JC PERCIVAL: You’re kidding, right? Weefy, I don’t think she’s kidding. A shorthand for a two-letter word? For just two letters. Can you believe it?
WEEFY: Well, you know, those smartphones today, it’s hard to hit the letters.
JC PERCIVAL: I guess you’re right. But still, only two letters.
WEEFY: I know. One single letter and he won’t even text that. If it were me, not hearing back like that, I would feel very insecure. I would wonder if he still cares. If he found someone else, or if he’s just bored of me, or… Oh! Oh my goodness! What if it’s something I said or did?
JC PERCIVAL: Weefy, that’s overthinking it. That’s not good.
WEEFY: I know, JC. But still, I wouldn’t be able to help myself. I would spend all my time checking my phone, waiting for his text. I don’t think I would be able to sleep.
JC PERCIVAL: He’s probably not even realizing he’s hurting her. He probably thinks that… He probably thinks that now that they’re a couple, she just knows how he feels. You know how boys are…
WEEFY: But you’re not like that, JC.
JC PERCIVAL: Well, I’m not a boy anymore. And I almost lost you once. I learned my lesson.
WEEFY: I think I know what to tell her now. You know what? Stop torturing yourself. Put that phone down and talk to him.
JC PERCIVAL: That’s my girl. Any suggestions on what she could say?
WEEFY: Yes, I do. Start by asking him if he likes texting. You might just find out he hates it.
JC PERCIVAL: But what if he says he likes texting?
WEEFY: You mean what if he ignores her texts, but texts all the time with the other boys he hangs out with?
JC PERCIVAL: That’s scary.
WEEFY: Yes, it is. But that’s the real test, isn’t it, I mean for her? She needs to ask herself if she wants to come last, every single time. And don’t discuss this in a text or even on the phone. Do it in person. Keep texts for “I’m running late” or…
JC PERCIVAL: Or “pick up some milk on your way home.”
WEEFY: Dear Desperate, if he’s willing to sit down and talk it through and take your feelings into consideration, then you’ve got a keeper.
JC PERCIVAL: And if he brushes her off…
WEEFY: Then she should probably rethink that relationship, right, JC?
JC PERCIVAL: I agree. And I think that concludes our show for today.
WEEFY: Tell us below if you agree or what advice you would have given instead.
JC PERCIVAL: Be nice in those comments now.
WEEFY AND JC PERCIVAL: Thanks everybody!
WEEFY: And come back for the next episode.
